Integrated Life Safety Installation For Bedford House, Taunton

Bedford house was a conversion of the old Debenhams offices in Taunton into 70 residential apartments. We Designed Supplied and Commissioned the Evacuation Alert System, and Combined Fire detection and Smoke Control system for the entire development. We faced several design challenges along the way whereby some of the shafts that had been allowed to be natural ventilation shafts had to become mechanical ventilation shafts using our pre assembled fan sets complete with control panels being crane lifted up to the roof. We had to undertake CFD Modelling to prove the performance of the mechanical extract systems, which was ultimately approved by the client and building control. Building control commented on and were particularly impressed with the combined nature of the smoke control / fire detection systems and how easy and intuitive it was to use in comparison with more traditional separated systems.
